Sie können einen Pool anlegen, egal wo Sie leben – wenn Sie entschlossen sind. Zumindest sehen das die unerschrockenen Badegäste in dieser Ausgabe so. Sie lassen sich nicht von Hindernissen wie beispielsweise dem Fehlen eines Grundstücksbesitzes aufhalten. Und ihre Geschichten über den Triumph im Wasser fassen eine Ausgabe zusammen, die sich den Wohnbereichen im Freien widmet, die ein Stück Natur aus Städten und Dörfern herausholen.
Einige dieser Geschichten sind Abenteuer. In unserer Rubrik „Moderne Welt“ begleiten wir drei Exkursionen, die von Stadtwanderungen bis zu Nacktpicknicks reichen (alles, was unsere Redakteure irgendwann einmal unternommen haben), und kombinieren die Ausrüstung, die Sie für eine solche Reise benötigen, mit Möbeln, die den Geist der Reise in Ihren Garten bringen. Wir besuchen auch ein Haus in Buenos Aires, das zwei Gebäude mit ein paar schmalen Schlitzen aus grob geschnittenem Beton kombiniert, um einen labyrinthartigen Kreislauf aus Grünflächen zu schaffen, die ein einzelnes Haus miteinander verbinden und darauf warten, erkundet zu werden.
In anderen geht es um das Leben mit und in der Natur. Der Wiyot-Stamm arbeitet seit Jahrzehnten daran, die angestammten Ländereien in Kalifornien, die während der europäischen Kolonisierung brutal enteignet wurden, zu konsolidieren. Und inmitten einer Krise des bezahlbaren Wohnraums haben die Stammesführer auch einen Land Trust gegründet, um sicherzustellen, dass sie ihrer Gemeinschaft dauerhafte Häuser und dringend benötigte Grünflächen bieten können. Ihre Geschichte ist eine besondere Anstrengung, aber sie zeigt eine Taktik für andere Gemeinschaften, die mit der Erschwinglichkeit von Wohnraum zu kämpfen haben.
Die Landschaften, ob groß oder klein, in dieser Ausgabe sind aus ihren Städten, Gemeinschaften und Ökologien entstanden. Und ob Sie nun Zugang zu ein paar wilden Hektar, einem nahe gelegenen Park oder einem abtrünnigen Pool haben, ich hoffe, diese Orte dienen als Beispiele dafür, wie Sie ein Stück Grün kultivieren können, das den Menschen um Sie herum zugutekommt.

History of Barton Library
The history of the establishment of the Barton Library is associated with the Chhagan Prasad Desai Library. It was the first initiation towards the establishment of an institute in the Kathiawad region.
To satisfy the hunger of reading of Bhavnagar, late diwan Gaurishankar Oza established “Shri Chhaganbhai Desai Library” in C.E. 1860. This library was a small drop to later create the ripples of “Barton Library”.
How old exactly is Barton Library?
The answer is 150 years. 30th december, 1882 is said to be its date of establishment. On 30th december, 1882 it was inaugurated by King Takhtsinhji Gohil and he named the library after english political agent Colonel L. C. Barton. This organisation is closely linked with Chhagan Prasad library and has a special designation in the map of Gujarat’s great culture. Academicians, researchers and intellectuals think of this organization as the treasure of information.
Thousands of Gujarati books on various subjects are an integral part of the library. History of the state is incomplete without Barton Library and book lovers in Gujarat eagerly want this library to emerge as the best of the country. The huge building of now Majiraj Kanyashala near corporation in Navapara, was initially the Barton Library in C.E. 1882. Mahatma Gandhi was among its regular readers.

ભાવનગર: બાર્ટન પુસ્તકાલય ગુજરાત રાજ્યના સૌરાષ્ટ્ર પ્રાંતમાં આવેલા ભાવનગર શહેરમાં આવેલી એક અનન્ય પુસ્તકાલય છે. જેની સ્થાપના 30 ડિસેમ્બર વર્ષ 1882ના દિવસે કરવામાં આવી હતી અને વર્ષ 1895 ના વર્ષમાં આ પુસ્તકાલયનું નવું ભવ્ય મકાન બાંધી લાઇબ્રેરી ત્યાં ખસેડવામાં આવી હતી. મહાત્મા ગાંધી જ્યારે ભાવનગરમાં અભ્યાસ કરતા હતા ત્યારે તેમણે આ પુસ્તકાલયનો ઉપયોગ કર્યો હતો.
જાહેરાત
ઇ.સ. 1936 ના વર્ષમાં આ પુસ્તકાલયમાં 15,980 પુસ્તકો હતા. જે 2004 સુધીમાં વધીને 61763 પુસ્તકો સુધી પહોંચ્યા હતા. 2009 ના વર્ષ દરમ્યાન પુસ્તકોનો આંકડો 68,000ને પાર કરી ચુક્યો હતો. 2012 ના વરસના અંતે આ આંકડો 72,000 અને 2015 માં 75,000 કરતા વધારે પુસ્તકો આ પુસ્તકાલયમાં હતા.

પવિત્ર ગ્રંથો અને પ્રખ્યાત નવલકથાઓ પણ છે
બાર્ટન પુસ્તકાલય માં “ગુજરાત નો નાથ”, “મધ્યબિંદુ” જેવી પ્રખ્યાત નવલકથાઓ પણ છે. પુસ્તકાલયમાં પવિત્ર ગ્રંથો જેવા કે શ્રીમદ્ ભગવદ્ ગીતા, રામાયણ, મહાભારત, બાઈબલ, કુરાન વગેરેનો સમાવેશ થાય છે.
પુસ્તકાલય કેટલાક કાર્ટુનના પરિકલ્પના ધરાવતા પુસ્તકો પણ ધરાવે છે કે જે બાળકોનું ધ્યાન પોતાના તરફ ખેંચે છે. બાર્ટન પુસ્તકાલયમાં ખુબજ રસપ્રદ એવા ‘અકબર બીરબલ’, ‘પંચતંત્ર ની વાર્તાઓ’, ‘વિક્રમ વેતાલ’, ‘બકોર પટેલની વાર્તા’ વિગેરે જેવા અસંખ્ય પુસ્તકોનો સમાવેશ થાય છે.

Lieutenant-General Charles Barton (20 April 1760 – 11 June 1819) was an Anglo-Irish soldier who commanded the 2nd Regiment of Life Guards and fought in the Peninsular War.
Barton owned an estate in County Fermanagh, Ireland.
Life
Born in 1760, Barton was the third son of William Barton (1723–1792), of Grove House, Fethard, County Tipperary, by his marriage to Grace Massy, a daughter of Charles Massy, Dean of Limerick.[1] He was baptized into the Church of Ireland on 25 April 1760 at St Peter's, Aungier Street, Dublin.[2] His brothers included Thomas Barton (1757–1820) and General Sir Robert Barton (1768–1853).[1]
In February 1790, Barton was a Captain in the 2nd Regiment of Life Guards and was promoted to Supernumerary Major.[3] In 1792,[4] he was promoted to Major, and in December 1796, still serving in the 2nd Life Guards, from Lieutenant-Colonel to Major-General.[5] In 1805 he again became Lieutenant-Colonel of the 2nd Life Guards by purchase,[6] by which he gained command of the regiment. He was still its Lieutenant-Colonel in 1811, while it was fighting in the Peninsular War.[7] During that war, on 25 April 1808, Barton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General[8] and was still a serving officer when he died in 1819 at the age of 59.[1]
In 1804, while a Major-General, Barton sat with Henry Edward Fox as a member of a court martial to try a case against Dr Robert Gordon, Physician to the Forces.[9]
In 1816, while Barton was living at 1, Montague Place, Mayfair, a man was hanged for breaking into his house and stealing a pistol.[10]
At the time of his death, Barton owned an estate in County Fermanagh called the Waterfoot, near Pettigo, which was inherited by his eldest son.[11]
Thomas Carlyle later described Barton as "...an Irish landlord and a man of connections about Court, lived in a certain figure here in Town; had a wife of fashionable habits, with other sons, and also daughters, bred in this sphere. These, all of them, were amiable, elegant, and pleasant people."[12]
Private life
In November 1799, at Wimbledon, Barton married Susannah Johnston, a daughter of Nathaniel Johnston, then of Wimbledon,[13] and Susanna Gledstanes, and their first child, Hugh William Barton, who eventually followed in his father's footsteps by becoming Lieutenant-Colonel of the 2nd Life Guards, was born on 13 December 1800. They had at least six other children: Nathaniel Dunbar Barton (1803, later a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Bengal Cavalry); Thomas Charles Barton (1805–1856); Robert Johnston Barton (1809–1863); Albert Evelyn Barton (1812–1874); Susannah Barton (born c. 1813); and Anna Eleanor Barton (born c. 1816).[1]
In her youth, Barton's wife had lived at Bordeaux in France, where her father, a Scot, had been naturalized as French.[1] Barton met her as the result of his younger brother Hugh Barton becoming a merchant in Bordeaux, where he made a large fortune and in 1791 married Susannah's sister Anne Johnston. Hugh Barton owned Château Langoa-Barton and estates in Ireland and lived at Battle Abbey, Sussex. He was High Sheriff of County Kildare in 1840.[1]
On 2 November 1830, at Christ Church, Marylebone, Barton's daughter Susannah married John Sterling, an author. Thomas Carlyle said of them that "His blooming, kindly and true-hearted Wife had not much money, nor had he as yet any..."[14]
In 1831, at Karnal, British India, Barton’s son Nathaniel married Honoria Angelina, a daughter of Colonel Alexander Lawrence and sister of Henry Montgomery Lawrence.[15]
Barton's other daughter, Anna Eleanor, married Frederick Denison Maurice, a clergyman,[16] on 7 October 1837 at Clifton,[17] and was the mother of two sons, including Major-General Sir Frederick Maurice.[18]

After an early career as a naval officer in the service of the East India Company, in 1840 Barton's son Robert Johnston Barton migrated to New South Wales and became a landowner and grazier at Boree Nyrang, near Molong.[19] He married Emily Mary Darvall (1817–1909), a sister of John Darvall, and their daughter Rose Isabella Barton (1844–1893) married Andrew Paterson and was the mother of Andrew Barton Paterson (1864–1941), known as "Banjo", a prolific poet and the writer of the lyrics of Waltzing Matilda.[20] The Dictionary of Australian Biography states that Paterson was related to Edmund Barton, the country’s first prime minister,[21] but the exact relationship is unclear.
